Overview

Unexpected rise from off-the-radar recruit to AP All-American. Wagler's positional size at 6'6" combined with elite shooting and impeccable playmaking gives him significant developmental upside. Led Illinois to their first Final Four since 2005. First freshman in Illinois history to earn AP All-American honors.

Background

Keaton Wagler attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in the Overland Park, Kansas area. While not a top-tier recruit, Wagler chose Illinois and immediately exceeded all expectations as a freshman. Wagler's rise has been one of the great stories of the 2025-26 college basketball season. Averaging 17.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, he became the first freshman in Illinois history to earn AP All-American honors. More importantly, he led the Fighting Illini to their first Final Four appearance since 2005, establishing himself as a lottery lock in the process.
